Dr. Keola G. A. Downing, Ph.D. Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
Keola Downing speaks at least a little bit of seven languages and is the author of "Sweet Water at Sea"
PAHOA, HI, August 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Keola G. A. Downing, Ph.D., Care Coordinator of COFA Migrants and Marshallese Interpreter for Ui Ui Ka Manu, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in interpretation. At Ui Ui Ka Manu, Dr. Downing acts as a Marshallese interpreter & translator for his clients and interprets during patient-doctor interactions.
He also assists with the local housing authority, interpreting in court and for local service agencies. Prior to his current position, Dr. Downing worked as a television producer for the Hawaii County Council. He also served in the Peace Corps in the Marshall Islands. With 40 years of experience, he attributes his success to his good fortune and to the support he receives from his family.
In 1990, Dr. Downing received his Ph.D. in Acupuncture Diagnosis. Fluent in several languages, he is certified as a medical interpreter, and is also a licensed acupuncturist and massage therapist. He is a member of Micronesians United - Big Island, the Micronesian Healthcare Advisory Coalition, and the Hawaii Acupuncture Association. Dr. Downing volunteers his free time as a deacon for the Hilo Marshallese Ministry UCC. Having written the book entitled "Sweet Water at Sea," about an ancient wave navigator, he hopes to become more involved with print work in the future.
