A Simple Weight Loss Diet: Scientific, Safe and Basically Free
The Pen and Paper Diet, a new book by Michael Dow, provides a simple solution for weight loss and a way for a person to maintain their ideal weight. As the title implies, all one needs is pen and paper to control their weight.

Tucson, AZ: The World Health Organization projects that over 80% of the U.S. adult population will be overweight by 2015. Also by 2015, approximately 130 million adults in the U.S. (or 53%) are expected to be obese (www.who.int/topics/obesity/en/).

The Centers for Disease Control state many health consequences for being overweight like Type 2 diabetes and colon cancer (www.CDC.gov). The current healthcare crisis requires a stress relief from somewhere in the system. Weight loss is a simple way to provide relief since most experts say it is a matter of watching what one eats.

The Pen and Paper Diet, a new book by Michael Dow, provides a simple solution for weight loss and a way for a person to maintain their ideal weight. As the title implies, all one needs is pen and paper to control their weight.

Dow says the book is based on science because "it uses research about estimated calorie requirements for people with different physical activity levels from the National Academy of Sciences. Also, total calorie content about the majority of the world's foods and many beverages are provided in the book which was obtained from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)."

"The diet is safe because a person doesn't have to take any diet pills. You just keep eating the types of foods that you like and you'll end up losing weight with this program," says Dow. "You don't have to worry about any side effects with a diet pill. You also don't have to avoid certain types of foods or seasonings like salt or carbs."

Dow says "the diet is basically free because all you have to do is buy the book for about $15 and then have a supply of pen and paper. Unlike current successful weight loss programs, a person doesn't have to keep buying products or meals from my company to lose weight or maintain a certain weight."

"This diet is unique in that the book provides all the tools the general public needs to control one's weight," says Dow. He says that people with all educational backgrounds have understood the concepts in the book [from a high school dropout (non-GED) to an MD]. Also, a local physician has started selling the book in his clinic.

The book retails for $14.95 and is currently only available at http://stores.lulu.com/thepenandpaperdiet. The book will be available in stores and with other online retailers soon.

An expanded edition has also been published which provides all calculations for estimated calorie requirements for adults from age 19 to 84. This edition was intended for Health Professionals that deal with many people in regards to weight concerns. The basic edition requires an individual to perform several basic math calculations to determine their estimated calorie requirement. The book has been translated into Spanish and is also available in a generic international version (Metric Edition).
